Fresh infusions essential for Bolshoi Theater - presidential advisor Tolstoy

MOSCOW. July 9 (Interfax) - Vladimir Urin has been appointed the Bolshoi Theater general director because fresh blood is necessary, the Russian president's advisor on culture, Vladimir Tolstoy, told Interfax on Tuesday.

"The moment, when fresh infusions, fresh blood are vital for the Bolshoi Theater, has arrived. Urin has become such blood," Tolstoy told Interfax.

Russian Culture Minister Vladimir Medinsky told reporters earlier on Tuesday that Bolshoi Theater General Director Anatoly Iksanov was relieved of his duties and Urin would replace him.

Tolstoy said he was certain Urin was the right candidate.

"Vladimir Georgiyevich [Urin] has proved himself wonderfully when heading the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Theater. Of course, the Bolshoi Theater is another level of responsibility but Urin already has the necessary experience," Tolstoy said.

Tolstoy said that Urin was also likely to bring in new staff to the theater.

"He will likely bring a new team with him as new executives usually do and this also will be the very blood necessary for the Bolshoi Theater," Tolstoy said.
