Georgian PM urges int'l organizations to send long-term observers to Georgia

TBILISI. July 10 (Interfax) - Georgian Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili said in a special TV speech regarding the start of the campaign ahead of the presidential elections to be held in the country on October 27 that the government would do everything possible to hold "telling and clean elections, which will help the country head in a European direction."

"That vicious practice has come to an end in Georgia, where the ruling team sends their state resource to fight against political opponents and impede with the free choice of citizens," Ivanishvili said.

Ivanishvili said he urged the representatives of the former ruling party United National Movement, who "were not part of the outrageous criminal system," to use the coming presidential elections as "to have a chance to earn a decent political future."

"The authorities will do everything possible so that you [representatives of the United National Movement] can hold a full-scale election campaign and the Georgian people will decide the rest," Ivanishvili said.

Ivanishvili said starting today he urged international organizations to send their long-term observers to Georgia, who would then give Georgian authorities their recommendations and comments on the election campaign.
