890 hectares of forest ablaze in Kamchatka

PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY. July 10 (Interfax) - Some 890 hectares of forest are ablaze in the Milkovsky district of the Kamchatka territory, the territorial government press service said on Wednesday.

"The fire broke out in the vicinity of Mount Nikolka in the Milkovsky district. About 780 hectares of the burning forest were already damaged in a fire several years ago. Another 102 hectares are young trees," head of the territorial forestry and wildlife agency Vyacheslav Bondarenko said.

Fifty-five firemen of the Emergency Situations Ministry and the Forestry Service and employees of the Kronotsky Nature Reserve are working to extinguish the blaze.
