Altaivagon not to commission new small, medium castings plant until end 2013

BARNAUL. July 11 (Interfax) - OJSC Altaivagon , one of Russia's largest producers of freight cars, has postponed the launch of a new small and medium castings plant costing more than 1 billion rubles until the end of 2013.

The plant was originally due to be launched at the beginning of this year. All the equipment, purchased from German and Italian manufactures, has been delivered, but it took longer than anticipated to dismantle the old plant, Irina Zhukova, spokeswoman for the company's Rubtovsk branch, told Interfax.

A large castings plant went into operation back in 2008.

The new plant will supply some of its castings to Altaivagon's main production site in Novoaltaisk and sell some to outside customers.

Altaivagon builds tank cars, gondola cars, boxcars and flatcars. The plant is part of the SBU-Mash group, founded by Siberian Business Union (SBU) in 2006.
