Putin: Russian weapon system will be developed with emphasis on precision systems

PROKHOROVKA, near Belgorod. July 12 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian weapon systems' modernization will continue along the track of developing powerful precision weapons, whose combat capabilities will not be inferior to those of weapons of mass destruction, President Vladimir Putin told Battle of Kursk veterans.

"We will also promote the development of the nuclear deterrence forces, of course," he said.

Putin was commenting on WWII veteran Viktor Zavgorodny's question for Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu about modern antitank weapons systems.

"Concerning modern antitank systems. A tank's survivability in modern warfare is extremely unlikely since an array of advanced anti-tank systems have been developed over the past 70 years. There are now systems that can burn through any armor," Shoigu said.

"These systems include guided projectiles and guided antitank missile systems," he added.

"The Russian armed forces are equipped sufficiently well, which can be seen from the results of the recent drills with live firing exercises", the defense minister said.

"Our antitank capabilities," Putin added, "have won acclaim in local conflicts in different parts of the world. They are considered among the best on the global market and we will continue perfecting them," Putin said.
