Yekaterinburg Pumori uses Okuma technology for machine assembly
YEKATERINBURG. July 15 (Interfax) - LLC Urals Machine Building Corporation Pumori (Yekaterinburg) has started assembling machines using the technology of and under the brand name of Japanese machine tool builder Okuma, Alexander Balandin, the CEO of the Urals company, told the press.
"We have signed a five year cooperation agreement. As part of this agreement the first machine was assembled for the Innoprom exhibition. Pumori specialists trained at the Japanese plant and then we brought over all the parts and carried out the assembly. Everything has been tested. We have certified it," he said.
There is demand for such machines from various Russian companies.
"I think that by the end of the year we will assemble from three to five per month. We can assemble 10 to 15 machines before year-end."
There is a chance to localize 10% of production, he added. "We do not need to bring over rudimentary parts such as housings. We have the technology and understanding to make these well here. Okuma will give us all the technical documentation. The total volume of localization achievable is 65%," Balandin said, adding that demand will determine when this issue is determined.
We are not talking about a joint venture right now, he said.
Okuma is the fourth largest producer of metal cutting equipment for sales volume in the world.
