Ukrainian iron ore pellet producers post mixed results in H1
KYIV. July 15 (Interfax) - Ukrainian iron ore pellet producers had mixed results in January-June 2013.
The London-listed Ferrexpo plc said in a press release that it raised commercial pellet production 11% year-on-year to 5.246 million tonnes. The company's core asset, Poltava Mining, reduced concentrate production 5.7% to 5.413 million tonnes. The Yerystovsky mining complex, which was commissioned last summer, produced 1.025 million tonnes of concentrate.
But the Metinvest holding's Northern Mining and Beneficiation Plant, from Kryviy Rih, told Interfax that it reduced commercial pellet production 3.3% year-on-year in January-June to 5.333 million tonnes. Iron ore concentrate output grew 1.1% to 7.465 million tonnes.
Metinvest's Central Mining, also from Kryviy Rih, kept commercial pellet production flat at 1.139 million tonnes while concentrate production rose 6.2% to 3.374 million tonnes.
Metinvest also runs Inhulets Mining, where iron ore concentrate output rose 1.1% year-on-year in January-June to 6.902 million tonnes.
Southern Mining, from Kryviy Rih, which is controlled by Ukraine's Smart Holding and Lanebrook Ltd, which owns Russia's Evraz Group, kept iron ore concentrate production flat in January-June at 5.208 million tonnes. It produced 1.241 million tonnes of sinter ore, up 14.7% year-on-year.

Ukraine produced 41.592 million tonnes of crude iron ore in H1, 2013, 4% more than in the same period of last year. Iron ore concentrate production grew 4% to 34.489 million tonnes, sinter production was flat at 21.714 million tonnes and pellet output grew 4% to 11.839 million tonnes, the Metallurgprom association has said.
