Foreign military experts monitoring Russian war games - deputy defense minister

MOSCOW. July 15 (Interfax) - Military experts, first of all in neighboring countries, have been closely monitoring the military drill in Russia's Far East, making no negative remarks, Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov said after meeting foreign military attaches in Moscow.

"We have been following the situation, first of all in neighboring countries to see what the reaction is in Europe. It is quiet. I think they are watching the situation with understanding. Although, the militaries in all neighboring countries - I am not speaking about our colleagues, our allies in the Collective Security Treaty organization, of course - are keeping an eye on what is happening in the Eastern Military District. Their reaction is normal," he added.

Asked whether negative or positive moments are prevailing in foreign comments, he said, "I can hardly cite a single negative remark. All countries are following what we are doing attentively, some with caution," he said.

"Most of the reports I am receiving suggest that what our armed forces are doing is seen with understanding," Antonov said.

He said the war games are proceeding according to plan without serious problems, although some flaws have been uncovered, which will be taken into account.
