Meningitis epidemiological situation in Russia is complicated - deputy PM
MOSCOW. July 18 (Interfax) - The meningitis epidemiological situation in Russia is complicated, Deputy Russian Prime Minister Olga Golodets said.
"Colleagues, the epidemiological situation is rather complicated. Today all services have been put on alert. Doctors have tripled their vigilance," Golodets told journalists when asked to comment on another reported case of meningitis in Russia.
"Doctors who have expertise in this disease, serous meningitis, are working everywhere," she said. "They pay particular attention to the southern regions, because local outbreaks [of serous meningitis] are possible there," she added.
However, the situation is under control, she noted.
It was reported earlier that two children have been diagnosed with serous meningitis on a Sochi - Moscow train; doctors are monitoring eight more children who came into to contact with the two who have fallen ill.
