Moscow accuses Romanian head of inappropriate comment on Transdniestrian problem

MOSCOW. July 19 (Interfax) - Moscow has called comments of Romanian President Traian Basescu on the Transdniestrian settlement process and Russia-Moldova relations made in an interview with the national media inappropriate and unfounded, Russian Foreign Ministry information and press department deputy director Maria Zakharova said.

"Moscow was surprised by certain ideas expressed during the interview of Romanian President T. Basescu with the Romanian media on July 16 regarding the Transdniestrian peace process and Russia-Moldova relations. For instance, Basescu cast doubts upon sincerity of Russian officials who advocate for lasting and viable settlement of the Transdniestrian problem. We think these comments are inappropriate and unfounded. The Russian position is unwavering and well known," Zakharova said in a commentary published on the ministry website.
