Azerbaijan presents Southern Gas Corridor project in the USA

BAKU. July 19 (Interfax) - Azerbaijan needs the firm support of the United States for the implementation of the Southern Gas Corridor project, the president of State Oil Company of the Azerbaijani Republic (SOCAR), Rovnag Abdullayev, says in a statement by the republic's diplomatic mission in the United States.

Speaking at a special function in Washington on the subject of the corridor and its role in European energy security organized by the Assembly of the Friends of Azerbaijan yesterday, Abdullayev said that the implementation of the project holds great significance for his country and the entire region. He said that Baku has to have firm U.S. support to make progress on it.

Azerbaijan Ambassador to the United States Elin Suleimanov said in his address that the Southern Gas Corridor project opens new prospects for the countries involved in it.

At the event, U.S. senators described Azerbaijan as a close friend and reliable partner for the United States. They praised Baku's contribution to European energy security and welcomed the country's energy policy, particularly the use of profits from energy resources for the development of other spheres in the country.
