Death of 2 Britons, 1 Russian in helicopter crash near Murmansk confirmed

MURMANSK. July 21 (Interfax) - Two citizens of Great Britain and one citizen of Russia died in a Sunday helicopter accident near Murmansk, Interfax was told at the press service of the northwestern transport prosecutor's office.

A press officer said that a plane of the Emergency Situations' Ministry arrived at the scene and experts are examining it.

"Three people standing on the ground are most likely to have been killed by the rotor of the helicopter that tried to take off," the officer said.

He added that the accident took place at a tourist camp.

Meanwhile, the northwestern investigative department for transport confirmed for Interfax that two citizens of Great Britain and one Russian national, an interpreter from Murmansk, died in the accident.

The helicopter belonged to a Murmansk-based company.

Meanwhile, a source in Murmansk region law enforcement told Interfax that operative teams arriving at the scene succeeded in reconstructing the details of the accident.

"The latest reports say the helicopter landed and as passengers started disembarking it fell it its side and hit the people with its operating rotors. All three died of injuries," the source said.
