Presidents of Russia, Moldova, Serbia to join Christianization of Rus events in Kyiv

KYIV. July 23 (Interfax) - The presidents of Russia, Moldova and Serbia have confirmed they will join the celebrations of the 1025th anniversary of the Christianization of Rus, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Yevhen Perebyinis said at a press briefing in Kyiv.

He said the heads of nine local Orthodox churches and delegations of six other local Orthodox churches will also attend. Talks continue with the heads of other states, Perebyinis said.

A large number of high-level guests have been invited, he added.

"Through its embassies abroad the Foreign Ministry has forwarded invitations from President Viktor Yanukovych and Metropolitan Volodymyr of all Ukraine to the presidents of several states and the heads of 15 local Orthodox churches," he said.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Interfax that President Vladimir Putin "is planning to visit Kyiv" for the celebrations of the 1025th anniversary of the Christianization of Rus.
