Khodorkovsky-Lebedev prosecution was not politically motivated - ECHR

STRASBOURG. July 25 (Interfax) - The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has disagreed with a complaint lodged by Yukos ex-CEO Mikhail Khodorkovsky and his former business partner Platon Lebedev who claim that their criminal prosecution was politically motivated.

On Thursday, the Strasbourg-based court announced its resolution on the first conviction of Khodorkovsky and Lebedev.

The court ruled that their first trial did not violate Article 18 of the European Convention on Human Rights that prohibits the signatories to the convention from applying permissible restrictions to rights guaranteed by the ECHR.
