Rights activist wants use of force against Moscow demonstrators probed
MOSCOW. July 26 (Interfax) - Member of the presidential Human Rights Council Pavel Chikov has asked the Moscow Prosecutor to launch an inquiry into policemen's crude use of force against participants in public events.
Chikov, who is also leader of the Agora inter-regional association of rights organizations, posted a letter on the Council's website, asking Moscow Prosecutor Sergei Kudeneyev to probe policemen's harsh use of force against participants in mass rallies and to react appropriately.
"Agora has received a number of complaints since 2010 about policemen's illegal use of force against citizens who join public events or perform their professional duties at them," Chikov said.
All of these complaints were "illegally rejected" by the Investigative Committee, he said.
