Basel Aero airports boost passenger traffic 12% in H1
KRASNODAR. July 30 (Interfax) - Airports in the Basel Aero group had passenger traffic totaling 2.45 million people in the first half of 2013, 12% more than in the same period last year, the company said in a statement.
The total includes 507,270 passengers on international flights and 1.9 million on domestic flights.
The airports recorded 13,619 plane departures in the period, 5% more year-on-year. Cargo and mail handling totaled 5,980 tonnes.
Passenger traffic was up 10% to 1.26 million people at Krasnodar airport, up 13% to 921,786 at Sochi International Airport, and up 29% to 209,635 at the Anapa airport.
"The positive trend in passenger traffic is the result of increased volume on the main route, to Moscow, on a greater number of flights, and on introduction of new service to popular resort destinations abroad. Passenger traffic also grew due to Russians' traditional interest in the popular resorts in Krasnodar territory," Basel Aero CEO Leonid Sergeev is quoted in the statement as saying.
Basel Aero, formed in 2007, manages airports in Sochi, Krasnodar, Gelendzhik, Anapa and Eysk (currently under construction).
