Vanino Port handles 29% more cargo in H1 on back of coal, ferrous metals
VLADIVOSTOK. Aug 1 (Interfax) - OJSC Vanino Commercial Sea Port in Khabarovsk Territory increased cargo transshipments by 29% year-on-year to 3.509 million tonnes in the first half of 2013, statistics from CJSC Morcenter TEK show.
Bulk cargo traffic surged 78.3% to 2.328 million tonnes in the half, with coal cargo up 180% to 1.823 million tonnes.
General cargo traffic grew 98.7% to 379,600 tonnes as transshipments of ferrous metals jumped 280% to 287,600 tonnes.
However, transshipments of forest products slumped 26.7% to 365,400 tonnes, and container cargo tumbled 52.2% to 6,600 tonnes.
Cargo traffic on the Vanino-Kholmsk ferry crossing fell 39.6% year-on-year to 430,100 tonnes in the first half.
Vanino Commercial Sea Port is the largest stevedoring company in Vanino port. It is linked to Sakhalin Island by the Vanino-Kholmsk ferry line.
