Rogozin criticizes Roscosmos for ineffective management and "vague understanding of goals of space activities"

MOSCOW. Aug 5 (Interfax) - Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin believes Roscosmos is not taking enough measures to improve the quality of rocket and space equipment.

"I closing, I will say the following. Firstly, I see ineffective management. Secondly, excessive capabilities. Thirdly, vague understanding of the goals of space activities," Rogozin said at a meeting on Monday.

Rogozin said Roscosmos has distanced itself from the tasks of stimulating internal demand for results of space activities, reducing its involvement in technological work. "The resources accumulated by out work will soon be exhausted," he said.

The aerospace industry has no unified policies, despite the fact that Russia has only ten satellite-building enterprises (as compared to four in the U.S. and two in China).

"The main goals of space activities have not been determined yet," Rogozin said.

There is no understanding of further understanding of manned cosmonautics development, Rogozin said. The possibility of human existence in orbit for a long period of time has been proven by Russia, but further tasks are not clear," he said.

The accident that occurred in early July negatively impacted the prestige of the country, he said. He also said the measures proposed by a state commission and Roscosmos to install photo and video cameras will not help prevent such situations in the future. "How will cameras help?" he said.

Rogozin also said Roscosmos currently continues to fulfill the functions of the ordering party, manufacturer, and operator of space systems.

"The measures taken by Roscosmos to boost the quality of rocket and space equipment have not produced the desired results," Rogozin said.
