Mechel starts up seasonal coking coal plant at Elga mine, to process 50,000 tonnes in 2013

MOSCOW. Aug 5 (Interfax) - Mechel plans to start up the seasonal washing plant at the Elga coal deposit in Yakutia before the end of August, the company said.

Mechel has successfully completed tests of the plant's equipment for producing coking coal concentrate and has formed production shifts to support round-the-clock operations.

The plant will process about 50,000 tonnes of raw coal by the end of the season. Mechel said the plant will ultimately have capacity to process 3 million tonnes a year once year-round operation begins.

The coking coal concentrate will be shipped to Mechel's Chelyabinsk Coke and Chemical Products Plant (Mechel Coke), which is part of the mining segment.

Beginning next year Mechel will examine opportunities to export the coking coal concentrate.
