Prosecutors want prison terms of Khodorkovsky and Lebedev to stay unchanged

MOSCOW. Aug 6 (Interfax) - The state prosecutor asked the Russian Supreme Court to uphold the 11-year prison sentences that were given to Yukos ex-CEO Mikhail Khodorkovsky and his former business partner Platon Lebedev during the second trial, an Interfax correspondent has reported.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court is holding a hearing into an appeal contesting the second conviction of Khodorkovsky and Lebedev.

The legal team representing Khodorkovsky and Lebedev will announce all of the complaints, and the rulings issued by lower courts will be mentioned. The lawyers will ask the court to overturn the previous rulings and release their clients from custody.

Following their two trials, Khodorkovsky and Lebedev each faced an 11-year prison term.

Khodorkovsky's actual sentence is calculated from October 25, 2003, when he was arrested, and Lebedev's sentence is calculated from July 2, 2003.

The former Yukos head could be released from prison in about a year and two months, and Lebedev could be released in less than 11 months.
