Invitation to Russia sent out to Snowden's father - Kucherena
MOSCOW. Aug 6 (Interfax) - Former CIA employee Edward Snowden's defense attorney Anatoly Kucherena has sent an invitation to Russia to Snowden's farther.
"I sent out an invitation yesterday. I hope he will be issued a visa," Kucherena told reporters in Moscow on Tuesday.
The visas will hopefully be provided within days, Kucherena said.
He also said that Edward Snowden wants to meet with reporters as he planned earlier, but he would like to meet with his father first.
Snowden fled to Hong Kong in May 2013 and then released classified information regarding the U.S. special services' online surveillance activities. Following this, Snowden arrived in Moscow on June 23. The United States revoked his passport and he was to stay in the transit area of Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport. Russia gave one-year asylum to Snowden on August 1 and he was able to leave the airport the same day. The U.S. is currently seeking his extradition.
