BTC pipeline carries 1% less Azerbaijani oil in Jan-July

BAKU. Aug 7 (Interfax) - There was 17,739,955 tonnes of Azerbaijani oil transported by the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline in January-July, 0.9% less year-on-year, State Oil Company of the Azerbaijani Republic (SOCAR) told Interfax.

"In July, the BTC oil pipeline transported 2,559,379 tonnes of Azerbaijani oil, and from the moment the pipeline was put into operation [June 4, 2006] to August 1 of this year - 223,191,769 tonnes of oil," a SOCAR source said.

The pipeline transported 251,713 tonnes of Turkmen oil last month.

There was 17,452,251 tonnes of Azerbaijani oil shipped from the oil terminal at Ceyhan in January-July, 2,448,233 tonnes just in July. In all the period of the pipeline's operation, 221,119,205 tonnes of Azerbaijani oil was shipped from the terminal.

The BTC pipeline runs for 1,768 kilometers - 443 km through Azerbaijan, 249 km through Georgia, and 1,076 km through Turkey. Throughput capacity is more than 50 million tonnes per year.
