Syrians who face death penalty in Syria are among people held in Moscow illegals' camp - rights activists
MOSCOW. Aug 7 (Interfax) - Citizens of Syria who have been sentenced to the death penalty in Syria are among the people held in the camp for illegal migrants located in eastern Moscow, Yevgeny Bobrov, chairman of the permanent commission on migration policies and the protection of human rights in the sphere of ethnic relations, said.
"There are even Syrians who may be deported by a court ruling to a country where they face the death penalty upon their return," Bobrov told a press conference held in the Interfax central office.
Over 90% of the people held in the camp are citizens of Vietnam, who were detained for violations of the migration regulations governing their stay in Russia and the labor legislation, he said.
"An overwhelming majority of those we have been able to talk to, and that is very few because translators are hard to come by, of those who spoke Russian and whose documents we were able to see, entered Russia illegally," Bobrov said.
Bobrov said these people had entered Russia on a tourist visa, worked despite that restriction, failed to extend their temporary residence, and were sentenced to administrative expulsion.
