Court places banker Golubkov under arrest
MOSCOW. Aug 8 (Interfax) - Moscow's Presnensky Court has placed Rosbank CEO Vladimir Golubkov, dismissed from the job and accused of bribery, under arrest.
"We and the prosecutor's office were opposed to changing the pre-trial restrictions but the court decided it is possible to transfer Golubkov from house arrest to a detention facility," Golubkov's lawyer Dmitry Kharitonov told Interfax.
According to Kharitonov, the court ruling is groundless. "It is possible to change the pre-trial restrictions only if the conditions of house arrest have been violated. But Golubkov has not violated those conditions. When answering my questions, the investigator confirmed this, said that the Federal Penitentiary Service had not complained about violations," the lawyer said.
It has been reported that investigators requested changing the pre-trial restrictions on Golubkov and the request had not been considered immediately because Golubkov was taken from the court building by ambulance.
"We will appeal the ruling returned, it is utterly illegal. Violations are mentioned only in a report of some field investigator but Golubkov left his house only with the investigator's permission," Kharitonov said.
