Three Aeroflot airliners were blinded by laser in Moscow airport area

MOSCOW. Aug 11 (Interfax) - Three Aeroflot airliners landing at Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport one after the other on Saturday night were blinded by a laser beam, a source in the air traffic control service of the airport told Interfax.

"The incidents followed one another and all affected international flights. The first one occurred at 11:27 p.m. when an A-321 from Nice was approaching the airport. The next case was registered at around 11:30 p.m. involving an A-319 from Stockholm," the source said.

The third instance occurred some 20 minutes later and involved an Aeroflot airliner returning from Spain, the source added.

The pilots of all three flights named approximately the same place from which the laser tried to blind them - some 60 kilometers west of Sheremetyevo in the area of the village of Nikolskoye.

The pilots successfully landed the airliners. None of the passengers or crewmembers was hurt.
