Russia ready to join inquiry into Indian submarine accident - source
MOSCOW. Aug 14 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian shipbuilding industry specialists are ready to investigate the Indian submarine accident, an industry source told Interfax-AVN on Wednesday.
"Our specialists can start working immediately if India asks for help investigating the Sindhurakshak situation," he said.
Eight members of the warranty group, among them specialists of the Zvezdochka center where the submarine has been lately given a medium overhaul and modernization, are staying in Mumbai, the source said.
Besides, St. Petersburg NPO Aurora has an office in Mumbai.
Earlier reports said that the Indian Sindhurakshak sub with 18 sailors aboard exploded and caught fire in the Mumbai port. Navy spokesman Narendra Vispute said everything was being done to keep safe the sailors and to rescue the submarine.
