ICC sees political pressure in ban on Ukrainian imports in Russia

KYIV. Aug 15 (Interfax) - The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) links the situation with Ukrainian imports to Russia to pressure Ukraine's entry into the Customs Union.

"I think it is probably connected to the fact that Ukraine will sign an agreement on association and a free trade zone with the EU in the near future. There is probably some political pressure here on Ukraine to enter the Customs Union," Ihor Gres, vice-president of ICC in Ukraine, told reporters in Kyiv on Thursday.

The import of Russian fuel to Ukraine and the consumption of Russian gas in Ukraine have now decreased considerably, and Ukraine was one of the biggest consumers of Russian gas, he said.

That inflicted considerable losses on Russia, which led to such methods of pressure on Ukraine, Gres said.
