Putin, Medvedev come to intl sambo tournament

SOCHI, Russia. Aug 17 (Interfax) - Russia's President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev arrived on Saturday evening at an international professional sambo tournament in Sochi.

Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev AND the Russian president's permanent envoy to the Southern Federal District, Vladimir Ustinov, were also among the spectators.

So were Renat Laishev, head of the Sambo 70 Education Center, Fedor Emelyanenko, winner of numerous world competitions in mixed martial arts (MMA), Vladimir Shestakov, president of the Russian Sambo Association, and Members of the Dynamo ice hockey club who had received decorations from Putin on Saturday.

The current Platform S-70 tournament, which brings together athletes from Ukraine, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, South Africa and other countries, is the fourth international contest organized by the Sambo 70 Education Center and League S-70.

A fight between Russia's Vyacheslav Vasilevsky and South Africa's Trevor Prangley was to be Saturday evening's main event. Vasilevsky is Russia's 2013 champion, and in August 2012 he won a major contest as part of a League S-70 MMA championship. Prangley is also famous, known as the winner of numerous titles.
