No one was detained at Kyiv rally - police
KYIV. Aug 19 (Interfax) - No one was detained at the rally held in front of the building of the Kyiv city administration on Monday morning, the police said.
Speaking about the incident involving journalists, the police said parliamentarians and representatives of trade unions of the public sector were talking to the press and the police pushed them aside to prevent opponents from the two groups of protesters from clashing.
Ihor Mihalko, the head of the public relations department of the Interior Ministry's Main Department in Kyiv, told reporters that the police did not violate any laws. Commenting on the media reports stating that the Berkut special task police were pushing journalists aside and hitting them, he said anyone who has complaints should immediately report them to the police.
In the meantime, the rally held in front of the Kyiv city state administration on Monday is now virtually over and most representatives of opposition forces and trade unions have left the scene.
A few protesters now remain at the entrance to the Kyiv city council, an Interfax correspondent has reported. The police cordon remains near the entrance to the building. A few protesters also remain on the opposite side of the Hreshchatik.
Arseniy Yatsenyuk, leader of the Batkivshchina faction, earlier told reporters several opposition activists may be hospitalized after clashes with police.
