Moscow City Election Committee gets no materials on financing Navalny's campaign from law enforcement

MOSCOW. Aug 19 (Interfax) - As of now, the Moscow City Election Committee does not possess information about the foreign financing of the election campaign of Moscow mayoral candidate Alexei Navalny.

"We have not received any material from law enforcement authorities so far. They will come - we will consider them," the Moscow City Election Committee told Interfax on Monday.

The law prohibits foreign citizens from donating to election funds of candidates running for elections in Russia, the Moscow City Election Committee said.

Acting Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin has been registered as a Moscow mayoral candidate legally, the Moscow City Election Committee said.

"The decision to register Sobyanin has been made. It is legal. The committee has not had questions about the documents submitted for registration," the Moscow City Election Committee said.

The Russian Interior Ministry said that it had started checking facts in the appeal of Russian Liberal Democratic Party Leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky on the foreign financing of Navalny's election campaign.
