Surkov to return to Kremlin - newspaper

MOSCOW. August 20 (Interfax) - Former Russian Deputy Prime Minister Vladislav Surkov has agreed to take the position of presidential aide for innovations, the Izvestia daily reported on Tuesday citing its sources with the Russian government.

"Surkov has lately been interested in these issues: innovations, modernization and so on. These are the tasks he will tackle as a presidential aide. Probably, his previous position as deputy prime minister was higher but the new position better suits both Vladislav and the country's leadership," one source with the Russian government said.

The sources were unable to specify when the president will sign the appointment decree of Surkov.

The position of presidential aide was not the only one that Surkov could have received, Izvestia learnt. He has considered four job offers since May. He was earlier viewed as a candidate for the position of the presidential envoy to the North Caucasian and Far East Federal districts, as well as the head of a corporation that would bring together Rosnano and the Skolkovo fund. Surkov rejected all four offers.

Izvestia was not able to receive a comment from Surkov.
