Dikes are being built in flooded areas of Kolyma
MAGADAN. Aug 21 (Interfax) - The water level in the rivers of the Susumansky, Yagodninsky, and Olsky districts of the Magadan region is not decreasing, and bridges and roads have been flooded in the region.
"A scraper of the holding Sumanzoloto, where some twenty people are working, was cut off from the land as a result of the flood. A helicopter carrying rescuers will take the people today and will supply the needed food and water to the enterprise," the press service for the administration of the Magadan region reported on Wednesday.
Food and water will also be supplied to the flood-hit village of Ust-Omchug. Heavy equipment has now arrived there to reinforce the coast like, along which residential buildings are located.
Water levels continue to rise in the Olsky district, too. In the villages of Talon and Yana, water levels have reached 46 and 31 centimeters. The bridge leading to the village of Balagannoye has been flooded and there are concerns tat it will not hold the water pressure, which will leave two populated areas cut of from the main road. Road construction continues in the region and dikes are being made.
Rainfall continues in the Susumansky district. The water levels in the area of the city of Susuman have reached 440 centimeters, exceeding the critical level of twenty centimeters. Sixteen units of equipment are working on the dike in the area of the microdistrict Berelekh 24 hours a day.
Several bridges on the federal road are also being flooded. A traffic police post has been created on the part of the road leading to the village of Yagodnoye to keep large trucks, which are coming mainly from Yakutia, from driving in the direction of the village. The vehicles will stay in Susuman until the bridges are reinforced, the report says.
According to Fyodor Trenkeshu, the head of the Yagodnoye district, up to sixty trucks are now near the flooded bridge over the spring. The authorities have ordered that the people be provided with food and water and places for recreation, if needed. Cars are expected to begin moving in the direction of the village on Wednesday.
A state of emergency, which was imposed in the Magadan region due to the flood, remains in place.
