FMS knows nothing about Cuban defector athlete

MOSCOW. Aug 21 (Interfax) - The Federal Migration Service knows nothing about the whereabouts of the Cuban track-and-field athlete Orlando Ortega, who defected during the world championship held in Moscow.

"Presently we have no information to this end," FMS press secretary Zalina Kornilova told Interfax on Wednesday.

Earlier the Cuban Track and Field Federation announced that Orlando Ortega left the quarters of the national team during the recent world championship in Moscow. "Participant in the 110 meter hurdles Ortega left the quarters of the national team having decided not to return to his country," a spokesman for the federation said.
