Over 1,000 homes flooded in Jewish Autonomous District - emergencies ministry

KHABAROVSK. Aug 26 (Interfax) - The situation remains serious in the Jewish Autonomous District, where 1,035 homes have been flooded, the Far East emergency situations department reported on Monday.

"Four thousand eighty countryside plots of land have been inundated and over 20,000 hectares of farmland have been damaged," it said in a statement.

The flood discharge from rives has destroyed 46 stretches of local motorways, 60 kilometers long, and damaged four motor bridges.

Overall, 8,300 people, including nearly 2,000 children, have been evacuated from their homes.

The Far East emergency situations department said 1,378 people have been accommodated in temporary residences, among them 529 children. The others moved to their relatives' or acquaintances'.
