Moscow calls Kerry's Syria chemical arms remarks "pompous" - source
MOSCOW. Aug 27 (Interfax) - Moscow has dismissed remarks made by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry regarding the possible use of chemical weapons in Syria as pompous and categorical.
"This statement was blatantly very pompous. It strongly resembled a certain period a decade ago, when such over-the-top enthusiasm on the part of American administration representatives was running high in an attempt to prove that [Iraqi leader] Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction," a Moscow diplomatic source told Interfax on Tuesday.
"It is well known what happened as a result of this enthusiasm," he said.
On Monday, Kerry said that Syria's use of chemical weapons and the fact that these weapons were controlled by President Bashar al-Assad's government were "undeniable".
