Sources say Transaero might buy 20 Boeing 737 MAX planes, company denies it
ZHUKOVSKY. Aug 27 (Interfax) - Transaero Airlines will sign a deal to buy 20 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft on Wednesday, an aviation market source told Interfax.
A Transaero spokesman denied these reports. Interfax was unable to obtain comment from Boeing or VEB Leasing.
VEB Leasing will fund the deal. "Transaero CEO Olga Pleshakova will sign the deal during the MAKS air show," the source said, without going into further detail.
Another source told Interfax that the deal would be a combination of an option and a firm contract.
Boeing started to develop the Boeing 737 MAX in 2011. It currently has 948 orders from 13 airlines.
Transaero, Russia's second biggest airline, has a fleet of 100 aircraft, including Boeing 737, Boeing 777, Boeing 747 and Boeing 767 as well as Russian Tu-214 passenger and cargo planes. It ordered four A380 and Boeing 787 last year.
