MIG concludes $55-mln service contracts with Indian company at MAKS air show

ZHUKOVSKY, Moscow region. Aug 28 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian aircraft corporation MIG and India's Basant Aerospace Privet Limited have signed two additional agreements worth a total of $55 million at the ongoing MAKS-2013 air show as part of a general contract with the Indian Air Force, MIG said in a statement.

"Two contracts worth $43 million and $12 million envision the establishment of service centers in India to maintain Zhuk-ME onboard radar systems manufactured by Fazotron-NIIR and other equipment for MiG-29UPG planes," a MIG spokesperson told Interfax-AVN at MAKS-2013 on Wednesday.

The service centers will be responsible for maintaining Zhuk-ME radar and other onboard systems used by the MiG-35UPG and MiG-29K/KUB, conducting repairs and providing consulting services to the engineering staff, he said.

"This should reduce the cost of the planes' operation by cutting the stock of spare parts and transportation expenses, increasing the fleet's operability, and improving flight safety," he said.

MIG also plans to set up a depot of spare parts in India to be able to promptly supply the necessary components to maintain the MiG fleet's operability, he said.
