Postponing elections in Far East undesirable, but worth thinking about - Putin

KHABAROVSK. Aug 29 (Interfax) - It is necessary to consider the proposal to postpone elections in the Far East, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

"It is undesirable to postpone the elections, but we will think about this more," Putin said at a meeting dedicated to the mitigation of flood consequences when it was proposed that the elections be postponed due to the emergency situation.

The president said he was not ready to answer immediately regarding the matter of postponing the elections for one year.

"It is necessary to think and if we do this, it is necessary to realize the legal implications and mechanisms of making such a decision. We will consult together with you and probably will decide in Vladivostok on [August] 31," Putin said.
