Russian Navy regroups ships in Mediterranean - Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. Aug 29 (Interfax-AVN) - Routine rotation of the combat ships of the permanent operative junction of the Russian Navy in the Mediterranean will take place in early September, the Russian Defense Ministry has reported.

"The guard ship Neustrashimy, the large assault landing ships Shabalin, Admiral Nevelsky, and Peresvet are currently fulfilling tasks included in the Russian Navy's plan of permanent presence in strategic regions in the Mediterranean," the Defense Ministry's press service and information department said in a report issued in Thursday.

These ships will be replaced by the large anti-boat ship Admiral Panteleyev, where the command of the permanent junction of the Navy in the Mediterranean will be headquartered, and the large assault landing ships Minsk and Novocherkassk, which will come from Novorossiysk, the report says.

The rotation will take place on September 1-7. After the rotation, the ships that were present in the Mediterranean will head to Novorossiysk, where they will undergo routine maintenance and replenish their supplies, the ministry reported.
