Baumgertner's lawyers developing defense strategy - lawyer

MINSK. Sept 2 (Interfax) - Belarusian lawyers for Uralkali CEO Vladislav Baumgertner met with him in a detention facility on Monday and started developing a defense strategy.

"A meeting [with Baumgertner] took place at the KGB detention facility today, and we are currently working out a defense strategy," Dmitry Goryachko, one of Baumgertner's lawyers, told Interfax on Monday.

Asked how frequently the lawyers can meet with their client, Goryachko said, "At least there were no problems today, and we plan the next meeting for Wednesday."

Baumgertner "did not complain about the conditions in which he is being held at the detention center" at the Monday meeting with the lawyers, Goryachko said. "We plan to bring him some things on Wednesday, including a TV set," he said.

Asked about Baumgertner's possible meetings with his relatives, Goryachko said, "They are not allowed for the time being."

"His mother has filed an application for visiting him at the detention facility, but there has been no response so far," he said.

Baumgertner currently has three Belarusian lawyers, he said.
