Gazprom, Itochu discussing LNG sales, gas chemicals project in Bashkortostan

MOSCOW. Sept 3 (Interfax) - Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller and Itochu Corporation chairman Eizo Kobayashi held talks on cooperation within the context of the Vladivostok LNG project, including the issue of marketing liquefied natural gas (LNG) in Japan, the Russian gas giant said.

Itochu, along with JAPEX, Marubeni, INPEX and CIECO, is a member of the Japan Far East Gas Co. consortium that worked with Gazprom to prepare the feasibility study for options to use natural gas in the area of Vladivostok, and the transportation and sale of natural gas and gas chemical products from Vladivostok to potential buyers in the Asia Pacific region.

In February 2013, Gazprom made a final investment decision on the Vladivostok LNG project, and in June it signed a memorandum of mutual understanding on this project with Japan Far East Gas Co. that sets out the main principles for organizing future joint work on the project. It also reflects agreements in the area of marketing the project's products in Japan.

Miller and Kobayashi also discussed the possibility of working together on the South Stream gas pipeline project, as well as setting up gas chemical production in Bashkortostan.
