KHABAROVSK. Sept 5 (Interfax) - A total of 8,469 people, including over 2,000 children, have been evacuated from their homes in the flood-stricken Jewish Autonomous Region, and 866 of them are staying in shelters, the Far Eastern center of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry said on Thursday.

"Twelve shelters have been deployed to accommodate flood victims. Each shelter provides temporary accommodation and services of a doctor and a psychologist," it said.

Twenty-five towns, more than 1,000 homes of over 5,000 people, remain flooded in the Jewish Autonomous Region, the center reported.

"Besides, the floods have affected over 33,000 hectares of cropland and 5,178 subsidiary plots," the report said.
