FGC begins loading 500 kV transmission line from Zeiskaya hydropower plant

KHABAROVSK. Sept 5 (Interfax) - Federal Grid Co has put a working load on a new 500 kV transmission line, Zeiskaya Hydropower Plant-Amur-2, the spokeswoman at FGC affiliate MES Vostok, Irina Viksina, told Interfax.

"The line is in operation," she said.

The 365-kilometer line, which raises the reliability of electricity supplies from the Zeiskaya station, supplies consumers in Khabarovsk territory, Amur region and the Jewish autonomous region and provides an additional channel for exports to China.

This year's flooding in the region has not affected the backbone electrical transmission lines connecting Russia and China, Viksina said.

It was reported earlier that FGC conducted 72 hours of testing on the line in August, despite the fact the pediments of some of the towers were underwater due to flooding on the Urkan River.

Launch of the line was postponed twice: once in June because China was not ready to accept the additional current and the second time over concerns about flooding throughout Russia's Far East.
