Claims of opposition's wish to destabilize Kyrgyzstan are provocations - ex-minister

BISHKEK. Sept 5 (Interfax) - Leader of the Kyrgyz opposition party Akyirat, former Foreign Minister Alikbek Dzhekshenkulov has called the security service's claims concerning destabilization plans provocative.

"Allegations of my involvement in plans to destabilize the country are a pretext and a provocation by the National Security Committee," he told a press conference in Bishkek on Wednesday.

He said the Kyrgyz administration should find out how the security services had discovered the intentions of the opposition.

Kyrgyz central channels' reports about the opposition planning acts of destabilization at its congress "were custom-made for a political order," Dzhekshenkulov said.

"They should fight terrorism, corruption and crime instead. I urge the authorities to come to their senses before it is too late," he said.

Dzhekshenkulov also asked heads of the television channels, which aired the reports, to give him a chance to answer the questions of viewers live.

The channels presented several destabilization scenarios allegedly considered by the opposition, such as the blocking of roads in the northern Issyk-Kul region and the poisoning of the water in the northern Naryn River with chemicals.
