Russia's opinion can't be ignored in intl policy - Naryshkin

MOSCOW. Sept 6 (Interfax) - Russian State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin believes any attempts to ignore Russia's opinion concerning international policy have no prospects.

"Russia is a large European state and no one can ignore it," Naryshkin told Interfax.

Naryshkin said he attaches a lot of importance to parliamentary diplomacy, which can be used to resolve differences, reach understanding, and resolve difficult issues.

The speaker confirmed his readiness to speak at the fall session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) in Strasbourg on October 1.

"We have many things to talk about. For example, threats and real achievements in the development of European parliamentarianism, its special features in Russia, and the work of the State Duma of the next convocation. Moreover, many myths about the laws that we have and have not adopted are voiced in PACE from time to time," Naryshkin said.

Naryshkin also said he intends to raise the issue of mutual understanding and the quality of inter-parliamentary interaction in his speech.

"Despite all our differences, we have to work together in the Council of Europe and its parliamentary assembly," the politician said.
