Russian Navy unit enters Mediterranean Sea, heads towards Syria

ST. PETERSBURG. Sept 6 (Interfax-AVN) - The Novocherkassk and Minsk large landing ships of the Black Sea and Baltic Fleets and the Priazovye reconnaissance ship have passed through the Dardanelles and entered the Mediterranean. They are headed towards the eastern Mediterranean, a source at the Navy Staff told Interfax-AVN on Friday.

"The Novocherkassk and Minsk large landing ships accompanied by the Priazovye reconnaissance ship have just passed through the Dardanelles Strait and entered into the space of operations," he said.

In his words, the landing ships are moving towards designated areas in the eastern Mediterranean to execute missions planned by the Navy operative command within a naval force. The reconnaissance ship will act according to an individual plan of the General Staff.
