Russian Defense Ministry's soldier killed in checkpoint attack in Dagestan

ROSTOV-ON-DON. Sept 10 (Interfax) - A Russian Defense Ministry serviceman was killed in an attack on a military unit's checkpoint in Buinaksk, Dagestan, a republican police source told Interfax.

"The incident occurred on Tuesday morning. The assailants opened automatic gunfire at the checkpoint guarding a residential area in the western part of the town of Buinaksk. A contract serviceman died as a result of the attack," the source said.

He said the servicemen also opened fire and the search for the assailants was underway.

The press service of the Dagestani Interior Ministry confirmed the shooting incident to Interfax. Reportedly, the assailants were driving a car. They are being looked for.
