State Duma to include idea of intl control over Syrian chemical weapons in its statement

MOSCOW. Sept 10 (Interfax) - The State Duma will release its statement on Syria with due account of the Russian idea of international monitoring of Syrian chemical weapons, State Duma Chairman Sergei Naryshkin said.

"I request that the relevant committee [the State Duma International Affairs Committee] urgently begin drawing up a special statement of the State Duma on this issue today with due account of the hopefully positive developments that occurred within the last few hours, first and foremost, the principled and unswerving stand of Russia, which has proposed that the chemical weapons stored on the Syrian territory be placed under international control," Naryshkin said in his opening speech at the house's autumnal session.

The speech opened with the Syrian problem. Naryshkin emphasized international issues in the context of extreme tensions over Syria.
