Russia to co-investigate Uralkali case - Belarus prosecutor general

MINSK. Sept 14 (Interfax) - The Russian prosecution service has asked to join its Belarusian counterpart in investigating charges against top managers of Russian company Uralkali and Russian top executives of Belarusian Potash Company (BPC), Belarus' prosecutor general said.

"The prosecutor general of the Russian Federation, Yury Chaika, has asked for a joint investigation," Alexander Konyuk told Belarusian television in an interview aired on Saturday.

Konyuk said Russian prosecutors suspected that alleged fraud in the two companies had inflicted damage on Russia, and that this explained Chaika's request.

Belarus satisfied the request, Konyuk said. "I have given instructions to separate records of the proceedings against the Russian nationals aside and make them available to the Russian Office of the Prosecutor General," Konyuk said.

"A joint investigation by the law enforcement agencies will ensure the most objective and comprehensive elucidation of all circumstances of the criminal activities of the executives, and all those guilty will be brought to justice," he said.

Konyuk said Chaika had offered to help Belarusian investigators in probing the alleged offenses.
