Russia ups meat, dairy output in 8M - Rosstat

MOSCOW. Sept 16 (Interfax) - Russia increased the production of basic foodstuffs, excepting sausages, unrefined sunflower oil, dairy butter, margarine, and bread year-on-year in January-August 2013.

The Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) reported on Monday that the production of meat and meat subproducts, excepting poultry meat, was up 27.6% year-on-year at 1.1 million tonnes. Poultry meat output was up 4.2% at 2.3 million tonnes. Sausage output was down 4% at 1 million tonnes.

There was 2.5 million tonnes of fish and fish product produced, 4.7% more year-on-year. The production of processed milk was up 2.2% at 3.6 million tonnes, that of buckwheat groats 12.3% at 199,000 tonnes.

On the other hand, output of unrefined sunflower oil was down 22.2% at 1.8 million tonnes, of real butter 3% at 145,000 tonnes, of margarine 0.6% at 288,000 tonnes, and of baked goods 3.3% at 4.2 million tonnes.

Rosstat reported that there were 537 million standard cans of apple juice produced in January-August, about the same as a year earlier. There were 521 million standard cans of vegetables and mushrooms produced, up 4.5%, and 218 million standard cans of fruit and berry jams, purees, pastes, and compote, up 15.3%.

There were 554 million standard cans of condensed milk, about the same as the year before.
